Least Favorite Reads of 2016 (#Bookmas2016)

This post is hard for me to make just because I don’t like even having to pick books that I didn’t like. But after seeing Hailey in Bookland’s video, I think this can also make for a really interesting post. Just as a disclaimer, even though these books weren’t for me that doesn’t mean that other people won’t love them. Just as a note, this is not a personal attack on anyone.

  1. Reality Boy by A.S. King — I honestly never DNF a book, but this was the first book ever that I had considered not finishing. I couldn’t figure out what was so bad about it until I went on Goodreads and read some other reviews of the book while reading it. I was reading this book during a rough patch in my life, and this book just put me in a bad mood. The main character in the book,¬†Gerald, is just so pessimistic that I couldn’t stand reading it because reading it just made me angry. It was so weird but at the same time kinda cool that a book can have that much of an impact on you. I ended up finishing it, but I still overall didn’t like how upset it made me.
  2. Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone — I am forever sad that I did not love this book like I thought I would. I had heard LovelyLikeLaura talk about for months and months and finally I ended up buying it. I have a very similar taste in books as her so I thought I was going to love this book. I can’t really say why I didn’t like this book without running the book, but I can say that I wasn’t a fan of this book due to its clich√©s.
  3. Ask the Passengers by A.S. King — If you can’t tell yet, I don’t think I’m a big fan of A.S. King, which is sad for me because I always thought that I would really love her. I don’t remember too much about this book except for the fact that I just found this book incredibly boring overall. There wasn’t anything special to it.
  4. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak — This is the book that I know people will get really mad at me for, but I just did not like it. I had been dying to read this book for a really long time after my friend had said she went into a slump because of how good this book was. I do like historical fiction from time to time, but it definitely is not my favorite genre. I feel bad saying that I did not like this book due to its topic matter, but I just thought the book was so slow and dragged on for far too long. I will say though that the last 20 or so pages of the book are beyond beautiful, but I can’t just give it a better rating for such a small portion of the book.

So those are some of my least favorite books I read in 2016. These are the books that really stick out in my mind although I have other books that I read that I didn’t absolutely love these were the books that I really remember.

I know I was pretty all over the place while filming this, but this book is truly remarkable. I also was so afraid to give away too much.

Oh yeah, I gave it a 5 out of 5 stars because how could I not?
